Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
