England along with Welsh Placed in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The pool stage draw was overseen by rugby legends such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side together with Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the 2027 RWC, setting up a major pool stage clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This pairing recalls their memorable clash in the group phase of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at Twickenham played a part in the hosts' surprise early exit.

Key Pool Draws

Ireland alongside the Scots have likewise been drawn in a group once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, they claimed a 36-14 victory, with Scotland failing to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, both impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, round out that Pool D.

Notably, the winners of both Pool D and Pool F are kept apart from holders and top-ranked South Africa until the showpiece match, presuming the South Africans win their own group.

Tournament Implications

Should the groups play out according to the current global standings, further leading contenders like New Zealand and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from both England and Ireland until the final.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on the same half of the elimination bracket as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their great rivals and triple champions the All Blacks in Pool A.

The Wallabies will open the tournament in the city of Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at jump-start the event.

Elsewhere, reigning champions the Springboks have drawn Italy, the Lelos and Romania. France are in a pool with the Brave Blossoms, 2031 hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Los Leones and Canada as the World Cup expands to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in France.

This edition will introduce a round of 16 stage for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

While the victor of Pool F may avoid some of the rugby's biggest beasts early on, they will have to face the second-placed team from Pool B – probably Italy – in the last 16.

Four of the remaining six group winners will face a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
