The Video Platform Provides The Community Authority to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a fresh option that enables them to reduce the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the platform revealed that it currently hosts over 1 thousand million AI-generated clips.

Pilot Phase and Launch

The new functionality is being tested over the coming weeks before a widespread release. This shift aligns with a rise in content created by AI, driven by recent content generation software.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that approximately a tenth of the most rapidly expanding video streams on a competing service primarily display clips produced artificially. A significant portion of this material is considered mass-produced AI material, a term for inferior, mass-produced content that is typically nonsensical or bizarre.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content made with AI tools, including digital art to informative clips, and we intend to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, according to their own preferences,” said a company executive.

Volume and Proportions

The service announced that there are now over a billion videos on its network tagged as artificially created. Collectively, in excess of 100 m pieces of content are added to the service daily, making clips made by AI a relatively small part of its overall inventory.

How to Adjust Settings

Users will be able to decrease or raise the level of AI content they view by accessing the topic control option in the app and picking the AI content topic. Additional categories that can already be adjusted under the filter include politics, fashion, beauty, and dance.

Platform Guidelines

Its policies mandate content makers to label lifelike artificially created content, and it bans harmful deepfakes of celebrities or crisis events. Any realistic AI-generated clip that is unmarked can be taken down under its community policies.

Furthermore, the app will now add an artificially created watermark to content produced via its own AI tools, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This measure is intended to help prevent users from trying to bypass the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is additionally establishing a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and institutions to produce learning resources about responsible artificial intelligence. This initiative will support educational bodies specializing in teaching computer science.

Platform Protection

TikTok has justified its content review process, amid discussion over proposals to cut jobs for numerous content moderators in Britain. The company is planning to eliminate hundreds of positions in its trust and safety department in the UK capital, with worker representatives and online safety experts voicing alarm that staff are being displaced by AI moderation.

A company official stated that human moderation would remain essential, but automated tools can shield workers by filtering out the most harmful content before it has to be seen by people. The platform announced a 76% decrease in disturbing and violent content seen by human moderators over the previous year due to reliance on its automated systems.

We believe it is crucial to combine humans and technology to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as part of that process, but we also think it’s highly necessary to reduce exposure to unsafe media as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is proving valuable work at speed.”
