Trump's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Trump's insatiable urge for payback has rapidly evolved into a structured framework. Within the year since his election, the president's fury and caprices have adopted the guise of official policies in a manner analogous to historical repressive systems. Government officials who do not cooperate are summarily fired and succeeded by supporters. Political officials who question him face prosecution, court proceedings and penalties. Critics have been labeled under executive orders as “anti-American”, “against faith communities” and “against free markets”, and threatened with criminal charges as “extremists”.

The Justice System Remade

Every instance involving legal action of political opponents and immunity for his allies exhibits its own particular features. Yet, regardless of their individual character, they exemplify manifestations of what has arisen as a calculated technique. Those incidents are not random. The administration's cleansing of DoJ prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, coupled with his placement of devotees in key posts, commenced rapidly, promptly took on a consistency, and has now been formed into a structure. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been remade into partisan organizations under the president's explicit direction to carry out his directives. Unfairness has been turned into standard. It represents the retribution system.

Management is more concerned with punishing the leader's supposed opponents than they are with defending our public welfare.

Inside the System

The beginnings of this framework has been revealed in the legal complaint of several previous senior Federal Bureau agents lodged in September in the US district court in the capital against top official an administration figure and attorney general a key figure for illegal termination in “a effort of retribution against Plaintiffs for what Defendants considered to be a inability to show adequate political loyalty”. The document states that one official, the former temporary head, details a discussion in which Patel “publicly acknowledged the impropriety of his behavior”.

Driscoll had tried to shield FBI agents from being terminated, the filing states. Patel told him that “White House figures” – interpreted by him to be the White House and DoJ – had instructed him to fire all those who they determined as having participated in a criminal investigation against him. The complaint goes on: “Patel explained that he had to fire the people his bosses told him to dismiss, because his capacity to keep his own job was contingent on the dismissal of the agents who worked on cases involving the President. The director noted that there was nothing he or the official could do to stop these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI sought to incarcerate the chief in detention and he remembers.’” Once Driscoll informed him he was violating the FBI's own regulations, the director supposedly said “he recognized that and he was aware the essence of the summary firings were probably unlawful”.

Extensive Effects

After the director's alleged admission to Driscoll, the justice department and the law enforcement agency have been dismantled and redirected for Trump's retribution system. Several of the agency's high-ranking agents were terminated or forced out in the early weeks of the presidency. About 4,500 professional attorneys at the justice department have accepted a “early exit scheme”. At least multiple government attorneys, such as those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in protest over what they viewed as partisan influence in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in exchange for his cooperation with his federal agency roundups of immigrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which handles ethical violations, has been diminished to two attorneys. The equality section has been severely reduced: seventy percent of its employees has resigned. 33% of senior leaders at DoJ have resigned. The division enforcing ecological regulations has experienced the exit of a majority its leadership.

Incentives and Penalties

In the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, the official, resigned in protest against what she characterized as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, his “border czar,” was present as the enforcer with the mayor on Fox News to announce: “Unless he complies, I'll be back in New York City.”. And, a former official, previously the justice department figure and a past legal representative, who negotiated the agreement, was given an appellate federal judgeship, a potential pathway to the highest court.

Trump's immunity for offenses perpetrated while in government, granted by the extraordinary decision of the conservative on the highest court, thus blocking his prosecution over the political violence and safeguarding his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the basis on which he relies to shield his supporters. Given this protection, he has been freed to permit corruption. The consequence of the court judgment permeates his administration and the political party thoroughly. The court matter has escalated.
